The story begins with a magical idea. We are in 1946 right after the Second World War when Laurent Chappis, a town planner, is put in charge of an exceptional project by the Savoy area Local Council, « to build a ski resort »!
To imagine, to draw, to build roads, buildings and ski lifts on a greenfield site: les Tovets. Along with his friend Jean Blanc, a ski champion from the Valley, he rushed into this project.
With 5000 beds, 2 lifts and the foundations of the future cable car of La Saulire (which will link Courchevel to the 3 Valleys) Courchevel immediately appears as a pioneer.
Nowadays, Courchevel has become a resort with ski in & ski out accommodation; a resort linked to the world’s largest ski area with interconnected slopes; an exceptional destination to:
